Apply to be a 2013 Plaza Festival Artist!

September 28th, 2013 12pm-10pm
Application deadline: August 1st, 2013

In celebration of the comeback of the revitalized Plaza District, the Plaza District Association holds the Plaza District Festival. The festival highlights a wide array of performing artists, visual artists, live musicians and children’s activities. The festival is open to the public and draws audiences from across Oklahoma City and the surrounding areas, and offers the surrounding neighborhoods an arts festival right in the heart of their community. Plaza District Festival boasts only Oklahoma artists, and is the only festival in Oklahoma City focusing on Oklahoma talent. Artist booths line NW 16th Street in a festive display of Oklahoma creativity!

Grupo AfroCaribeño to Perform at Plaza Festival

21 Sep

At this year’s Plaza Festival, one group will have the distinction of performing at both our music stages. This group is Grupo AfroCaribeño, an Oklahoma City-based performance ensemble. The group fuses elements from cultural traditions from Africa and the African Diaspora, including bomba from Puerto Rico, rumba from Cuba and bambula from New Orleans.

The group aims to build a sustainable community that studies, appreciates and celebrates African-rooted music and dance forms through live performance, academic engagement and collaboration. For a sneak preview of what to expect, check out this video, from their performance at the Myriad Gardens in March.

They will perform first at the Coin-Op stage at 2, then at the Stanley’s Garage stage at 3:30.

Allie Lauren to Perform at Plaza Festival

20 Sep

How do you like your indie music? Infused with a little jazz and pop, or genre-defying altogether? Then you might want to check out Allie Lauren’s set.

A collective of backing musicians paired with the vocals of Lauren Nicole Clare (that’s luh-REN), Allie Lauren has been featured at this year’s Festival of the Arts, as well as Norman Music Festival and numerous performances at the Picasso Cafe. Their single “Lately” is also now featured on iTunes.

You can see them perform on the Stanley’s Garage stage at 1:30 during Festival. Hope to see you there!
